UIW Dedicates Joeris Ballroom in Honor of Longtime Benefactor

On Friday, Oct. 10, the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) renamed the Broadway Campus' Student Engagement Center (SEC) Ballroom the Joeris Ballroom in honor of its cherished partners and friends, Maria Antonietta and Gary Joeris. Gary Joeris is the chairman and CEO of Joeris General Contractors and former UIW Trustee, who recently committed a generous gift of $500,000 toward the construction of Founders Hall.

Joeris General Contractors has been a longtime trusted partner in the University's efforts to advance its infrastructure, from multiple residence halls to the Student Engagement Center to Founders Hall.In 2009, Joeris pledged $1 million toward the UIW Capital Campaign resulting in the naming of the Joeris Residence Hall. In addition, since 2002, he has supported UIW's annual Swing-In Golf Tournament and Auction Party, which has raised millions of dollars for student scholarships.

During the dedication, Maria Antonietta and Gary Joeris was joined by UIW Board of Trustees members and UIW leadership, including University President Dr. Thomas M. Evans, for the celebration. Surrounded by their Incarnate Word community, they were honored for their continued efforts toward helping further UIW's Mission and support generations of Cardinals.

"Today, we celebrate more than a name upon a beautiful room," noted Evans. "We celebrate the spirit of community that animates UIW, the city of San Antonio and all who believe in education as a force for good. This ballroom will be a gathering place for moments that shape lives ... It is my hope that the Joeris family ballroom reminds our students that their journey is supported by people who believe in them. To the Joeris family, thank you for your trust, your partnership and your witness to generosity."

"We love the University," expressed Gary Joeris. "We're happy to help and love the friends we've made here."

Alongside Evans, the Joeris family unveiled the Joeris Ballroom's new plaque, escribed with the message:

"In honor of the generosity an unwavering support of Gary and Maria Antonietta whose contributions have enriched our community and future generations."
