New Hires on Video

I am thrilled to announce three new hires in Video across our New York, London and Seoul offices.

Haimy Assefa joined us in New York this spring as a senior video journalist on reporter video, bringing her deep knowledge of culture and video production to collaborate with colleagues across the culture and lifestyle desks. She will produce, edit and publish vertical videos and oversee the work of cinematographers, editors and other collaborators.

Before joining The Times, Haimy ran Blue Black Studio, a video and film production company she founded. As a director and filmmaker, she led a wide range of projects, from digital series to her feature-length documentary, "Hope in High Water: A People's Recovery 20 Years After Hurricane Katrina."

Previously, Haimy was a video journalist and producer at Vox's "Explained," NBC News and CNN, where she covered breaking news and stories about immigration, criminal justice, racial injustice and beyond. She earned an Emmy nomination in 2018 for her work with "Great Big Story."

Haimy received her Master of Arts degree in international affairs with a concentration in governance and rights from the New School in Manhattan.
