The EPA is once again running afoul of its mission to protect human health and the environment

Washington, D.C. -

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a two-year delay of criteria pollutant standards for new light- and medium-duty vehicles. The EPA's criteria pollutant standards set limits on health-harming tailpipe pollution linked to asthma, cardiovascular disease, and premature death. After the EPA released its proposed rule, Earthjustice issued the following statement from Anne Clement, Senior Legislative Representative:

"The EPA is once again running afoul of its mission to protect human health and the environment. The proposed delay of criteria pollutant standards for new cars, trucks, and SUVs means dirtier air and greater health consequences for communities across the country. Rather than delaying them, the EPA should fully implement and enforce these protective criteria pollutant standards."

Earlier this year, Earthjustice joined more than 70 other groups in opposing any weakening or delaying of these air pollution protections.
