Still Spotlight…
But Still Real
Yesterday's April Fools' moment renaming Spotlight to "Reals" was all in good fun-a playful nod to the authentic, unfiltered content our community shares every day.
While the name change wasn't real, the idea behind it is.
As we focus on elevating original content on Spotlight-created using the Snapchat camera-you'll see fewer synthetic AI videos or widely syndicated posts. Snapchatters come to Spotlight for fresh, personal content that feels native to our community, driving a more meaningful experience for everyone.
We've always believed that what makes Spotlight special is the authenticity of what you see-content made by and for our community-like candid moments, spontaneous reactions, and everyday experiences shared by real people across Snapchat, from Snapchatters to Snap Stars. That's something we're continuing to invest in as we build Spotlight into an even stronger short-form video experience.
We're also seeing strong momentum on Spotlight-especially in the US-as more creators turn to it to grow their audience and more Snapchatters come to watch and engage:
Creators posting to Spotlight daily in the US grew more than 70% year-over-year in Q1 20261
Unique viewers have reached all-time highs, with double-digit growth in the US as more Snapchatters continue to engage with Spotlight content 2
During our April Fools moment, Snapchatters posting to Spotlight in the US increased more than 15% week-over-week 3
Creators who post daily to Spotlight are seeing real results-growing their followers more than 10x faster4than those who don't, underscoring how quickly creators can build and connect with an audience by posting to Spotlight.
And this momentum is happening at scale. In Q4 2025, Snapchat reached 474 million daily active users and 946 million monthly active users5, while creators posting to Spotlight in the US grew nearly 50% year-over-year6-reflecting the growing role Spotlight plays in how our community creates and consumes content.
That's why we're continuing to invest in Spotlight-celebrating creativity from across our community and building tools and experiences that make it easier for Snapchatters and creators to share original content and grow their presence.
The way our community shows up and shares on Snapchat is what makes the platform unique, and it's been amazing to see the positive (and hilarious) reactions over the past day.
So while Spotlight isn't becoming "Reals," the spirit of it-keeping things real-is here to stay, and it's easier than ever for Snapchatters to grow, build an audience, and go viral on Spotlight.
Happy Snapping!
