CSPD and Front Range partner agencies taking part in surge registration enforcement

Throughout the week of August 23, 2026, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) will join regional law enforcement partners, including the Denver Police Department, Aurora Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Monument Police Department, Palmer Lake Police Department, Fountain Police Department, and El Paso County Sheriff's Office. These agencies will participate in a coordinated enforcement effort targeting expired vehicle registrations and unregistered vehicles on roads and highways throughout the Front Range.

Each agency has heard from concerned citizens about an increase in vehicles with expired or no registration on the roads. As a response, these agencies have committed to a surge in enforcement of this issue from August 23rd - August 29th, as well as continued intentional enforcement of these violations. During this period, officers are expected to take a zero-tolerance approach to registration violators.

While moving violations such as speeding, distracted and reckless driving, and DUI/DUID will continue to be enforcement priorities, CSPD and other Front Range agencies understand the frustration and community impacts that expired and unregistered vehicles can create in our communities.

The goal of this effort is not simply to issue citations, but to encourage compliance and remind vehicle owners of their responsibility to keep their registration current. By raising awareness in advance, participating agencies hope to prompt voluntary compliance and give community members an opportunity to ensure their vehicles are properly registered before the enforcement effort begins.
