Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center streamlines outpatient registration

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Patients scheduled for outpatient care at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center will no longer go through a two-step check-in process when arriving for their appointments.

The longtime outpatient registration space off the main lobby of the hospital's west entrance will close for renovation starting Monday, Jan. 26. Outpatients will now go directly to their appointments and register there. Patients can stop at the main Guest Services desk for help finding their destinations.

The former registration space will house a recently purchased MRI machine that will replace a machine nearing the end of its service life and consolidate services at Geisinger Wyoming Valley so the hospital's two MRI units will be in proximity to each other.

"This upgrade streamlines registration so our outpatients can get to their appointments more easily and spend less time visiting different departments," said Mike DiMare, administrative director in Geisinger's northeast region. "When our new MRI unit is up and running, that service will also be more convenient for our patients and clinicians, since both MRI machines will be adjacent to each other on the same floor, rather than on separate floors as they are today."

The updates accelerate pieces of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley expansion and modernization project, enabling future renovations to begin earlier than expected. The new MRI machine is expected to go into service in August.
