USDA Approves Automatic Replacement SNAP Benefits for Shelby County Residents in Certain Zip Codes Impacted by Severe Weather on August 22nd

NASHVILLE, TN- Approved by USDA Food and Nutrition Administration, the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS), will provide automatic replacement Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to eligible SNAP households in certain Shelby County zip codes impacted by severe weather on August 22, 2026. The automatic replacement benefits are intended to assist SNAP households that may have experienced food loss due to prolonged power outages or household misfortune resulting from the severe weather. TDHS will issue automatic replacement SNAP beginning on September 4, 2026, to eligible SNAP households included in the following zip codes: 38004, 38108, 38111, 38115, 38116, 38119, 38126, and 38141.

The amount of replacement SNAP benefits eligible households will receive will be based on the date their August 2026 SNAP benefit was issued, according to the following schedule:

This automatic replacement process will help SNAP households impacted by the severe weather to receive replacement benefits without visiting a local TDHS office or submitting a signed affidavit of food loss through the One DHS Customer Portal. The process is designed to help provide replacement assistance to affected households more efficiently and timely.

Automatic replacement SNAP benefits will be issued to SNAP households on their existing EBT card for those who qualify.

SNAP households that have already received replacement benefits based on a signed affidavit of loss will be excluded from the automatic mass replacement process.

If a SNAP household submits an affidavit after receiving an automatic replacement and requests an amount greater than the automatic replacement amount received, the household may be eligible to receive only the difference between the requested amount and the amount previously replaced. Replacement benefits cannot exceed the household's maximum monthly SNAP allotment.

Additionally, SNAP households outside of the identified zip codes that have experienced food loss due to the severe weather may request replacement SNAP benefits. Replacement SNAP affidavits related to this severe weather event will be accepted through September 11. SNAP Households may submit a request through the One DHS Customer Portal.
