Ranking Member Luján Leads Telecommunications and Media Subcommittee Hearing on Artificial Intelligence in Communications Networks
Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Ranking Member of the Senate Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Telecommunications and Media, helped lead a subcommittee hearing titled "Intelligent Networks: Powering Artificial Intelligence and Transforming Communications."
As the development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) evolves, it is increasingly taking on a larger role in the buildout and management of our communications networks. During the hearing, Senator Luján examined AI's role in the deployment of broadband infrastructure across the country, specifically with the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program. Additionally, Senator Luján discussed the potential and oversight needed of AI to improve network resiliency, change how we defend against cyber attacks, and optimize traffic across the networks.
"AI is transforming the way our networks are built, managed, and secured - reshaping the digital economy, strengthening our global competitiveness, and driving the development of advanced communications networks," said Senator Luján. "As we expand broadband access across the country, we must ensure today's investments are built to support tomorrow's technologies and that rural and underserved communities are not left behind in the innovation economy. I'm grateful to the expert panelists who joined us today for this important conversation."
