The University of Toledo and The Blade will present a panel discussion on lunar exploration on Tuesday, March 10, continuing the thought leadership series Perspectives.
UToledo's Dr. Duane "Ray" Hixon will join four national panelists in discussing the country's rekindled romance with space travel and the power of dreams ahead of the much-anticipated launch of NASA's Artemis II in "Perspectives: America's Return to the Moon" at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, in University Hall's Doermann Theatre.
The panel will be moderated by David Shribman, a Pulitzer Prize-winning, nationally syndicated columnist and executive editor emeritus of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Panelists are:
• Dante Centuori, executive director of the Armstrong Air & Space Museum in Wapakoneta, Ohio;
• Michelle Hanlon, executive director of the Center for Air and Space Law at the University of Mississippi and co-founder of the nonprofit For All Moonkind;
• Dr. Duane "Ray" Hixon, a professor in UToledo's Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering whose aerospace research is continuously supported by the NASA Glenn Research Center;
• Dr. Jennifer Levasseur, curator of the space history department at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum; and
• Robert Sullivan, a long-time writer who edited coverage of John Glenn's return to space at age 77 for LIFE magazine and authored the illustrated history "LIFE: Man in Space."
"More than a half-century since Americans watched NASA land a man on the moon in 1969, we're on the cusp of an innovative new era of space travel and lunar exploration with Artemis II," said Dr. James Holloway, president of UToledo. "The Perspectives thought leadership series is always a valuable opportunity to welcome our community to hear directly from experts, and we look forward to what promises to be an insightful discussion on what we can accomplish when we shoot for the stars."
UToledo and The Blade launched Perspectives in 2024 to bring together campus and national experts in free, public panel discussions exploring a variety of timely topics.
Attendees are asked to register online through The Blade.
