Park River Beautification Project Aims to Create a New Destination for Students

The scenic area alongside the river is a familiar sight for students and community members crossing the footbridge between the academic and residential side of campus. With its close proximity to residence halls, University Commons, and the Hawk's Nest, the University and facilities and dining partner Aramark are looking to transform the space with flowers, greenery, chairs, and picnic benches. That beautification work is expected to begin in the spring.

"Creating intentional, accessible, and inspiring spaces continues to be a priority for UHart," says Aaron Isaacs, vice president for student success. "Some projects are about necessity, such as paving parking lots or replacing roofs, but others are about possibility. This is one of those opportunities to design spaces where students can unwind outdoors, create a deeper connection to the nature on campus, and develop a strong sense of community and belonging. We look forward to seeing this beautiful gathering space take shape."

UHart has added a number of common spaces in recent years as part of ongoing campus improvements. This month, new lounge furniture will be delivered to several residence halls. Indoor and outdoor dining, as well as a scenic pond, are planned as part of a major renovation of Konover Campus Center this year.
