Summer Scams Refresher

While enjoying your vacation and relaxing, we want you to be aware of some common scams that tend to pop-up during summer. Here are a few to keep in mind:

  • Bank Imposter & Mobile Wallet Scams: Scammers call spoofing your bank's number, claiming a fraudulent charge is clearing your account. They will ask you to read back a one-time passcode you just received to verify your identity, which they then use to add your card to their own digital wallet.
  • Fake Vacation Rentals: Fraudulent listings on sites like Craigslist or social media offer beautiful, cheap properties. The scammer will pressure you to wire money or pay via apps like Zelle or Venmo. Once paid, they disappear, and the rental does not exist.
  • Reservation Hijacks: Highly targeted phishing attacks where hackers intercept hotel databases to email or text you before your trip, tricking you into confirming your payment details or paying fake resort fees.
  • Delivery & Toll Scams: Fake texts claiming an issue with a package or an unpaid toll contain malicious links that direct you to clone bank websites to steal login credentials.
