Mexico Expresses Solidarity with Spain and Provides Consular Assistance to Mexican Nationals After Train Accident

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the train accident that occurred today, October 28, in Urda, Toledo, and expresses its solidarity with the people and Government of Spain. It also wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.

From the outset, the Mexican Embassy in Spain activated its consular protection protocol and has been in constant contact with Spanish authorities to monitor developments closely.

So far, the Embassy has made contact with seven Mexican nationals who were aboard the trains involved in the accident. All received medical treatment for minor injuries and have been discharged.

The Embassy is prioritizing the case of one Mexican national whose whereabouts have not yet been confirmed. Consular staff are in close contact with the individual's family, and the head of the consular section filed a report with the Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) in Toledo, where the emergency response center is located.

The Embassy will continue to coordinate closely with Spanish authorities and remain in contact with the families to provide any consular assistance required.

Mexican nationals in need of assistance may call the consular emergency line of the Mexican Embassy in Spain, available 24 hours a day, at +34 660 862 625.

The Ministry reiterates its commitment to protecting Mexicans abroad.
