Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas in Singapore

At the invitation of Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas visited Singapore from 30 January to 3 February.

In addition to attending the Singapore Airshow and participating in the Changi Aviation Summit, his programme included high-level political meetings, exchanges with international organisations, engagement with EU business representatives and field visits.

Commissioner Tzitzikostas presented the EU's commitment to safe, sustainable, and innovative transport systems and to reinforce dialogue with Singapore on shared challenges and priorities.

In his speech at the Changi Aviation Summit in Singapore, he underlined that the era of airline growth at any cost is over. The future of air travel is based on responsible growth with open markets, fair competition and an investment in sustainability.

He had meaningful contacts and meetings with the Ministers of Transportation of Singapore Jeffrey Siow, France's Philippe Tabarot, Saudi Arabia's Saleh Bin Nasser al-Jasser, the Deputy Minister of Transportation of the United States Daniel J. Edwards, the new President of the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO - International Civil Aviation Organization, Toshiyuki Onuma, with the Ambassadors of the EU Member States, with high-ranking executives of European companies, the European Chamber Singapore and of course the Ambassador of Greece in Singapore, Christodoulos Margaritis and the Greek community.

His official mission kicked off with visits to PSA and the PSA Innovation Centre, Innovation Centre, Traffic Management Centre and the Airbus Asia Training Centre.

Four key examples that demonstrate why Singapore is a global model of innovation and the key transport and logistics hub of the EU in Southeast Asia. At the same time, they constitute an essential pillar for global shipping and aviation and an EU strategic partner in trade, supply chain resilience, maritime security and the digital transition to transportation.
