On 11 May 2026, the fourth round of consultations on general political issues between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People's Democratic Republic took place in Minsk.
The Belarusian delegation at the talks was led by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lukashevich, and the Lao delegation by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maythong Thammavongsa.
The parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation, including the organisation of joint events. Issues of cooperation in the political, trade and economic, and humanitarian spheres, the improvement of the legal framework, and interaction within international organisations were considered. The sides exchanged views on specific issues on the regional and global agendas.
The head of the Lao delegation was also received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov. The parties noted their mutual interest in the further development of multifaceted cooperation between Minsk and Vientiane. Particular attention was paid to cooperation between the foreign ministries in the near future, as well as to joint steps to implement agreements in the trade and economic sphere.
The Belarusian side confirmed its readiness to host an official visit by the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Thongloun Sisoulith, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko. Maxim Ryzhenkov reiterated his invitation to his counterpart, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos, Thongsavan Phomvihane, to pay a reciprocal visit to Belarus.
