Hi Neighbors,
As you might have heard, Portland's 2026-27 budget process is well underway.
The City Budget is the plan Portland uses to decide how much money it expects to receive, and how those dollars will be used to serve the community every year. The budget shows what the City can afford to do, how services are funded, and what priorities community members and City Council want to invest in.
I'll be blunt: the City is facing yet another major budget deficit, potentially as large as $100 million or more, which will mean that we must make cuts. Oregon law requires Portland to balance its budget every year. That means The City cannot spend more money than it receives. When a budget year brings in less revenue than was expected, the City must make careful decisions about how to shift funding-so essential services can continue.
The Mayor will release his initial budget draft by April 20th, and then it will come to City Council, where my colleagues and I will get a chance to amend the budget to better reflect the needs of District 4 Portlanders.
Whether you live, work, play, pray, or study in District 4, we want to hear about your priorities for our city. No knowledge about the City's budget is needed to take this survey, just what you care about.
This survey should take 3-5 minutes to complete, and needs to be completed by April 20th. Please feel free to forward this email and share with others.
In Solidarity,
Mitch Green
P.S. You're invited to the District 4 Budget Open House happening tomorrow, Saturday April 4 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Portland Building downtown. Join myself and other District 4 Councilors, Mayor Keith Wilson, City Administrator Raymond Lee to engage in the City's budget process, share feedback and help shape priorities ahead.
