Special Performance by The Newfangled Four to Celebrate Inauguration of University of Dubuque President Travis L. Frampton

DUBUQUE, Iowa - As part of the inauguration festivities for University of Dubuque President Travis L. Frampton, PhD, The Newfangled Four will take the stage for a special performance during Homecoming at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2025, in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center.

From Southern California, The Newfangled Four is one of the top barbershop quartets in the world, performing all around the United States and internationally. Formed in fall 2012, this foursome quickly bonded through their involvements with the Westminster Chorus and Masters of Harmony, two well-renowned choruses in the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Combining old fashion slapstick humor with their quirky offbeat comedy, The Newfangled Four merges their talents as top-notch harmony singers and world-class entertainers. In 2013, the quartet won the International Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest and the Far Western District Quartet Contest, and most recently finished sixth place in the world in 2023.

Over the years, The Newfangled Four have developed a reputation not only for their fine singing and showmanship, but also for their work and involvement in the youth movement as clinicians and educators, leading countless workshops for young singers in the US.

The Newfangled Four has appeared on Buzzfeed, Hallmark's Home and Family, ABC's The Gong Show, and the CW's Christmas Carolers Challenge. Additionally, the quartet has recorded tracks for the Lifetime Movie Network.

Frampton began serving as the 12th president of the University of Dubuque in June 2024. He brings valuable experience as both a scholar and an administrator to UD. Frampton earned a bachelor of arts in religion from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, a master of arts in religion from Yale Divinity School in New Haven, Connecticut, and a dual doctor of philosophy degree in philosophy and religion from Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (philosophy) in the Netherlands and Baylor University (religion) in Waco, Texas. Prior to his appointment at UD, Frampton served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas.
