Vaughan comes together for a vibrant Chanukah celebration

The City of Vaughan welcomed residents to a festive Chanukah celebration on Dec. 18 at Garnet A. Williams Community Centre.

Community members of all ages gathered to enjoy an evening of official remarks from Mayor Steven Del Duca, live performances, an interactive DJ and a wide range of family-friendly activities, including colouring and button-making, a photobooth and balloon artistry.

"Thank you to everyone who joined us at Garnet A. Williams Community Centre for a wonderful Chanukah celebration," said Mayor Steven Del Duca. "It was a truly special event with great performances, music and memories to last a lifetime. Chanukah is a time that reminds us of the importance of faith and that good will defeat evil. In Vaughan, we are proud to be home to one of the largest Jewish populations outside of Israel. To all our Jewish residents: we stand with you, and as we mark Chanukah, we celebrate with you. On behalf of the City of Vaughan, I want to wish everyone celebrating a safe, peaceful and happy Chanukah. Chag Chanukah Sameach!"

On Dec. 17, the City held its annual Menorah Lighting ceremony at City Hall, presided over by Rabbi Mendel Kaplan, founder and spiritual leader of Chabad Flamingo.

Chanukah is an eight-day holiday, celebrated each year by people of the Jewish faith. It is observed to commemorate the rededication of the Temple of Jerusalem.
