Happy October! We have definitely entered fall in October and here are things we are celebrating this month.
-
The Inktober Challenge! During the month of October, we challenge anyone and everyone to pick up a pen or pencil and draw something every day, based on a list of prompts. MCFL will put the Inktober prompts and rules on social media platforms at the beginning of the month and challenge you to draw. Participants can post their drawing in the comments or bring your drawings to your nearest branch for a chance to win a small prize. Branches will also be posting the Inktober prompt list in branches for artists in the library.
-
Latino Heritage Month continues this month through October 15. Visit our branches to see displays featuring Latino authors and other notable events in Latino Heritage.
-
Banned Books Week is celebrated every year in libraries, celebrating our freedom to read what we choose. This year Banned Books Weeks runs from October 5-11. We will post covers of banned books. Comment on your favorite banned books on our social media platforms. You can find a list of Banned Books in 2025 here.
-
Media Literacy Week is recognized during the week of October 27-31. The focus of Media Literacy is to educate our children, our communities and ourselves to be discerning about what we read and see in the media. With the increased use of AI and disinformation, it's hard to know what to believe. You can learn more about media literacy week at this link. You can find more accurate information through MCFL's online resources.
-
Comics Plus is our featured resource this month. We are excited to offer unlimited checkouts and simultaneous use of a plethora of comic books and graphic novels through Comics Plus. You can find Comics Plus on MCFL's eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines page.
Visit your local library, we hope to see you soon!
