Prepare for SOME; Ready for ALL

Posted on 09/10/2025

Do you, your family, coworkers know what to do when disasters strike?

When to stay (or where to go)?

How to get accurate information?

What to keep at home or take with you?

The answers to these and other questions can often depend on what type of disaster, how severe it is, and where it's located -- among other factors. However, having emergency kits (with certain key contents) in the home, car, or at work is considered one of the best ways to start preparing.

To help families and workers plan ahead, each year in September, disaster response and emergency management agencies nationwide observe National Preparedness Month, to bring awareness of the many ways to become self-ready. Many options are detailed in the September Editionof LA City's Emergency Management Department (EMD) newsletter. Read and/or download it at the link.
