Expect delays at the SH-16 and SH-44 intersection this morning

STAR - The Idaho Transportation Department is shifting traffic around the State Highway 16 and State Highway 44 intersection overnight. Due to thunderstorms in the area the roadway is wet and striping will not adhere to the pavement.

ITD and the contractor are working as quickly as they can but the roadway will not reopen by 5 a.m. Flaggers are currently directing traffic. If you live or work in the area, please expect delays or use an alternate route.

Once the traffic shift is complete, motorists can expect:

  • Northbound and southbound SH-16 traffic will run on the new on and off ramps.
  • The SH-16 and SH-44 intersection will be shifted to the east to line up with the new ramps.

The SH-16 and SH-44 Interchange will provide access from SH-44 to SH-16, while allowing SH-16 to flow freely over SH-44. This interchange is part of the long-term vision for SH-16 and will be finished next year. When complete, SH-16 will be a limited-access freeway between I-84 and SH-44. Motorists will use interchanges to enter or exit the highway at I-84, Franklin Road, Ustick Road, US-20/26 and SH-44.

Motorists are encouraged to text HIGHWAY16 to 1-866-483-8422 for email or text alerts. For maps and details about the project, please visititd.idaho.gov/project/sh16construction.
