U.S. Comptroller of the Currency to Speak at UW April 9

Jonathan Gould

U.S. Comptroller of the Currency Jonathan Gould will speak about national issues related to banking regulations, including cryptocurrencies and digital assets, at the University of Wyoming Thursday, April 9.

Hosted by UW College of Law Dean Julie Hill at UW's law school, the lunch and conversation will take place from noon-1:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

"It's not often that the head of a federal agency visits Wyoming's university, and we're excited to have Comptroller Gould coming to speak about topics of high interest in the banking world and beyond," Hill says. "He will discuss the expansion of national banks in Wyoming, the growth of cryptocurrencies and digital assets, and changes to the regulatory appeals process."

The comptroller of the currency is the administrator of the federal banking system and the chief officer of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), a federal agency. The mission of the OCC is to ensure that national banks and federal savings associations operate in a safe and sound manner; provide fair access to financial services; treat customers fairly; and comply with applicable laws.

Before becoming comptroller, Gould was a partner at the law firm Jones Day. He holds a law degree from Washington and Lee University.

In addition to UW's College of Law, sponsoring his appearance at UW is the Wyoming Bankers Association.
