Illinois 171 bridge repairs in McCook begins March 16

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs to the bridge carrying Illinois 171 over Joliet Road in McCook will begin, weather permitting, Monday, March 16.

To complete the work, Illinois 171 will be reduced from two lanes to one in both directions just before the bridge. The public also should expect various lane shifts on both sides of Illinois 171 approaching the bridge throughout the project.

The $1.7 million project, which consists of repairing the bridge deck, approaches and substructure, replacing expansion joints and installing a new deck overlay, is anticipated to be completed in July.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
