Feedback sought to help protect coastal communities

FREDERICTON (GNB) - The government is seeking feedback from New Brunswickers to inform a "state of the coast" report that will guide efforts to protect coastal communities. The report will be issued next year.

The government is collaborating with various provincial and federal government departments, Indigenous groups and coastal experts to better understand the challenges facing the province's unique coastal regions.

"By working together, we will ensure we are taking the necessary steps to protect our coastline from the effects of climate change," said Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage. "We are committed to keeping our coastline - and communities close to them - vibrant for years to come."

A consultation webpage offers background information, an overview of the process and instructions on how to participate. People are encouraged to provide written submissions or complete a brief survey on the webpage by Dec. 1.

In-person and virtual consultations next year will provide other opportunities for feedback.
