YAC Celebrates 25 Years, Nov 22 Event

What's the Latest - Celebrating 25 Years of the Youth Action Council!

The City of Morgan Hill is hosting the first reunion for all YAC members who served between 2000 - 2025. The event is dedicated to all current and past YAC members from the past 25 years who have positively shaped the Morgan Hill community. "We are incredibly proud of the work accomplished by our past and present YAC members over the last quarter century," said YAC Advisor Chiquy Mejia. "This reunion will honor their dedication and celebrate the remarkable positive impact they have made on our community, creating unforgettable memories. We are excited to see everyone there!"

The evening will be a special opportunity for attendees to reconnect, celebrate their collective impact, and look ahead to the future.

What is YAC?

The Youth Action Council (YAC) is a group of teen developmental asset leaders from ages 13 to 18 that give a voice to teens in the community by building assets one teen at a time.

The purpose of YAC is to serve as the prominent voice representing the youth in our community. YAC helps the teens of Morgan Hill recognize that they are valued and appreciated as a part of the community (Asset #7: Community Values Youth - young person perceives that adults in the community value youth). As a group of dedicated teenagers, YAC will communicate the desires of teens and create programs and special events where teens can cultivate Developmental Assets through building a bond with other teens and members of the community.

YAC applications will be given to YLMH students on the first day of the program. On the same day, there will be a YAC orientation for parents and YLMH participants in the evening. Submit the YAC application by Wednesday of YLMH for an interview appointment on June 21, Friday. Selected YAC Members will serve a minimum 1-year term and serve until their high school graduation. An incoming senior in high school may serve only one year. Terms start in September each year.YAC monthly meetings are held at the Centennial Recreation Center Teen Center. The meetings usually occur on the first Tuesday of each month, except for September and January, they are scheduled for the third Tuesday instead. The meetings are held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

YAC's most anticipated yearly event is also its most thrilling one, bringing together over one hundred lively adults aged 50 and above and more than 25 enthusiastic teenage volunteer waiters/waitresses. This extraordinary occasion fosters a profound sense of togetherness, featuring captivating performances, vivacious dancing, unforgettable souvenir pictures, delectable food, and an array of delightful surprises.
