CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to repair the bridge carrying Kedzie Avenue over the Cal Sag Channel in Robbins, a full closure of the southbound lane on Kedzie Avenue approaching the bridge is scheduled to begin, weather permitting, Monday, July 27.
A detour will direct southbound traffic to 127th Street, Pulaski Road and Illinois 83 (147th Street).
Kedzie Avenue was reduced from two to one lane in each direction last month due to corrosion of structural steel on portions of the bridge discovered during a recent evaluation.
The repairs are expected to be completed with Kedzie Avenue returning to two lanes in both directions over the bridge Saturday, Aug. 1.
The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
