Syracuse Mayor Sharon F. Owens announced the appointment of Dre'chir Whitfield to Nightlife Coordinator in the City's Department of Neighborhood and Business Development. Whitfield will be responsible for supporting safe, vibrant and well-maintained commercial and mixed-use districts across the City, with a focus on Downtown and areas with active nightlife. She will engage with business and property owners, nightlife operators and community partners serving as a liaison for district needs. Whitfield will also respond to corridor requests and complaints, nightlife best practices and district activation efforts.
"I am thrilled to welcome Dre'chir and look forward to the experience and knowledge she will bring to the areas of Syracuse she will support," said Mayor Owens. "This position was created to support the efforts at the intersection between entrepreneurism, nightlife, public safety, and public arts. As an entrepreneur herself with a strong background in the hospitality industry, I am confident that she will serve as the vital liaison needed to connect and advance all of these areas".
Whitfield has extensive experience in building relationships with nightlife operators, businesses and community stakeholders, and event coordination. Prior to joining the City, she worked in Las Vegas as a Wedding Planner and Coordinator as well as a Business Development Manager and Event Manager where she developed relationships with businesses in the hospitality industry and coordinated and negotiated contracts with concert promoters and venues.
Across several roles, including with Juneteenth celebrations in Las Vegas, she planned and executed community centered cultural events, coordinated multi-vendor marketplaces, and led outreach efforts that strengthened local businesses, arts programming and stakeholder engagement. She managed complex logistics for concerts, showcases and international performance groups while fostering vibrant public activations aligned with economic development, placemaking and community engagement goals.
Whitfield resides in the Inner Harbor neighborhood with her partner and their pitbull, Denim.
