API Applauds Trump Administration Extension of Jones Act Waivers

WASHINGTON, August 10, 2026 - The American Petroleum Institute (API) today issued the following statement from Senior Vice President of Government Relations Kristin Whitman on the Trump administration's decision to extend the Jones Act waivers for an additional 90 days.

"We commend the administration's leadership in extending the Jones Act waivers, a critical action that will keep American energy moving, strengthen supply security and help protect consumers from unnecessary price volatility. This decisive step will ensure critical fuels reach the regions that need them most while reinforcing America's resilience amid ongoing global market disruptions."

Targeted Jones Act waivers provide critical flexibility to move American energy efficiently between U.S. ports and deliver fuels to consumers at a time of ongoing global market volatility. API's American Energy Security Framework called for improvements to the Jones Act to further unlock domestic energy flexibility.
