Pivot Bio expands in Hazelwood, investing more than $7 million and creating 40 new jobs

Pivot Bio, one of the world's leading agtech companies, announced today that it has expanded in Hazelwood, investing more than $7 million and creating 40 new jobs. The company's expansion includes the relocation of its manufacturing and innovation center of excellence to the St. Louis region.

"Pivot Bio's expansion and relocation of its manufacturing operations to Hazelwood is another testament to the strength of Missouri's vibrant agtech sector," said Governor Mike Kehoe. "Whether for our skilled workforce, strategic location, or ideal business climate, leading innovators continue to take notice of our state's ability to cultivate success. We're proud to count Pivot Bio among the many top-tier companies that have chosen Missouri as the place to grow and create solutions in support of agriculture."

Pivot Bio is an agtech solutions company with the first scalable breakthrough crop nutrition innovation in over a century. The company is driven by its commitment to make farming more productive and resilient. As pressure on natural resources grows and global food demand rises, growers want nitrogen solutions that are affordable, reliable, and predictable. Pivot Bio's nitrogen source is applied at planting, delivering a consistent, foundational source of nitrogen directly at the plants' roots, beginning at germination and continuing through key vegetative growth stages.

"This expansion reflects Pivot Bio's continued commitment to helping farmers increase reliably, efficiency and profitability," said Chris Abbott, Chief Executive Officer at Pivot Bio. "By investing in the Greater St. Louis area, we're strengthening our ability to deliver breakthrough innovations to farmers, creating high-quality jobs, and deepening our roots in a region that's become central to our growth. Farmers are looking for solutions they can count on, solutions that perform consistently and support the long-term health of their operations. Our locations in Hazelwood and Creve Coeur will accelerate our work to deliver reliable, predictable nitrogen solutions to growers at scale."

The company's Greater St. Louis Center of Excellence brings together its research and development hub in Creve Coeur, located in the 39 North AgTech Innovation District, with its expanding manufacturing, packaging, distribution, and customer support operations in Hazelwood. Together, these sites form an end-to-end system that powers Pivot Bio's crop nutrition solutions, from discovery to delivery on the farm.

"Pivot Bio's continued growth and investment in the Greater St. Louis area is exactly the kind of economic activity that helps Missourians prosper," said Michelle Hataway, Director of the Department of Economic Development. "DED is proud to partner with cutting-edge companies like Pivot Bio as they strengthen Missouri agtech, create jobs, and further underscore our state's standing as a prime business destination."

New jobs added as part of Pivot Bio's expansion will pay an average wage well above the county average. Pivot Bio will benefit from the Missouri Works program, a tool that helps companies expand and retain workers by providing access to capital through withholdings or tax credits for job creation.

What others are saying

"The Pivot Bio investment confirms Hazelwood is the best place for a company to grow and expand," said Hazelwood Mayor Matt Robinson. "Not only will Hazelwood serve as the home of a cutting-edge ag-tech industry, but Pivot Bio's expansion proves they made the right choice when they relocated their operations to our community in 2023."

"The agtech industry has been essential for St. Louis's economy, and this announcement will only add to the industry's growth and success here," said Rodney Crim, CEO and President of St. Louis Economic Development Partnership. "This expansion will not only help the capabilities of Pivot Bio, but it will also bring new, well-paying jobs to the St. Louis region."
