Washington, D.C. - Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Senate Appropriations Committee Vice Chair, and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03), House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member, released the following statement on Republicans' partisan continuing resolution (CR):
"House Republican Leadership has decided they would rather take us to the brink of a shutdown instead of working with Democrats on a bipartisan continuing resolution to keep the government funded, protect Congress' power of the purse, and improve health care.
"For the last few days, we have been working with Chairs Cole and Collins on a bipartisan, short-term continuing resolution. We stand ready to continue down this path that would give us time to complete full-year bills, if Speaker Johnson backs away from this partisan move. Instead of continuing to work through important issues with us on the continuing resolution and government funding to help the middle class and the working class, House Republican leadership has walked away from negotiations and are now threatening a shutdown by trying to jam through a funding bill on their terms alone.
"Speaker Johnson and Leader Thune need to finally come to the table to negotiate with Democratic leadership on health care, lowering the cost of living, and other critical issues-something they have outright refused to do for weeks.
"Despite President Trump urging a breakdown in talks and Republicans pushing the country closer to shutdown, Democrats stand ready to fund the government in a way that helps families afford the basics, prevent Trump from stealing from communities, and address the health care crisis Trump has caused."
