City to Activate Orange Flag Overnight Cooling Center June 21

The City of Greensboro will activate an overnight Orange Flag cooling center Sunday, June 21, in response to forecast extreme heat that day.

Operated by Greensboro Community Safety Department staff, the Orange Flag cooling center will be open 7 pm, Sunday, June 21, to 7 am, Monday, June 22, at the Caldcleugh Center, 1700 Orchard St. It is available to single adults and families.

The Interactive Resource Center will be open as a daytime cooling center between 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Activation of the Orange Flag occurs on days when the forecasted daytime temperatures reach 90 degrees or higher, and overnight temperatures do not fall below 70 degrees.

Please note the daytime cooling stations and hydration station in Greensboro operate regardless of the Orange Flag status during the summer months. For more information on initiatives put in place to support the Greensboro community during extreme heat, visit www.Greensboro-nc.gov/CoolingCenters .
