Trump's Transportation Department Celebrates $25 Million Investment in AV Shuttles to Improve Transit in Downtown Chattanooga

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) today celebrated a $25 million investment into Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA). The award will go towards deploying an autonomous vehicle (AV) shuttle service in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee.

CARTA will launch up to six AV shuttles linked to the city's new Mobility & Innovation Command Center to deliver real-time oversight, emergency incident response, and data-driven transit optimization.

"To meet the needs of tomorrow, the Trump Administration understands that we must invest in the cutting-edge technologies of today," said FTA Associate Administrator for Communications and Congressional Affairs Connor Torossian. "By testing AV technology on actual transit routes, Chattanooga will show the nation what autonomous mobility can accomplish."

The funding is part of a broader $1.73 billion investment in 127 projects nationwide under the USDOT's Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant program.
