Flood Update - November 5, 2026 6:00PM

URGENT MESSAGE: Anyone performing work within a county road right-of-way, which extends 30 feet from either side of the road centerline, must obtain a right-of-way permit. This requirement applies to work such as replacing culverts or removing mud from ditches. The permit application provides residents with helpful guidance, while issued permits allow the County to document and coordinate ongoing repairs. NORMAL PERMIT FEES HAVE BEEN WAIVED. Please complete the permit here:

Property owners clearing debris from waterways must follow U.S. Army Corps of Engineers guidelines. For information about flood-debris removal permits, call Kerrianne Zdimal at the Corps' Durango office at (970) 749-4854.

This Saturday, November 7th, at 9 a.m., a Disaster Assistance Center will open at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. The Disaster Assistance Center will bring together government agencies and nonprofit organizations to help connect residents with services such as housing assistance, social services, public health resources, emotional support, and insurance guidance. These services are provided at no cost to disaster survivors.

Damage Assessments: La Plata County assessors have begun property assessments out in the community this week. Residents should report their own property damage and unmet needs as well through the Disaster Survivor Portal Crisis Track, Colorado's disaster-reporting portal. Reports may be shared with state and federal partners, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small Business Administration, to help determine eligibility for disaster assistance. Before cleanup, photograph damage and upload the images to Crisis Track.

The following road closure list does not include every affected road. Please be patient as crews work around the clock to assess and repair extensive, catastrophic damage to La Plata County roads. This list, with pictures, is viewable at www.lpcgov.org/flood.
