The University of Toledo has again been identified as one of the best colleges in the country by U.S. News and World Report, moving up three spots in the 2026 ranking.
The 2026 Best Colleges list announced Sept. 23 ranks UToledo 293 out of the 434 national universities that U.S. News and World Report selects from more than 2,600 universities in the United States.
UToledo has again been identified as one of the best colleges in the country by U.S. News and World Report, moving up three spots in the 2026 ranking.
"The University of Toledo provides great value for our students with opportunities to study in a supportive environment at a research institution that is focused on preparing graduates for successful futures," UToledo President James Holloway said. "The U.S. News Best Colleges ranking is one way we can demonstrate all the benefits that UToledo has to offer."
U.S. News and World Report ranks colleges on a number of metrics, including graduation and retention rates, peer assessment, faculty resources and research, social mobility, and graduate earnings and debt.
UToledo's ranking rose in 2026 in the academic peer assessment, graduation rate and performance, student-faculty ratio and financial resources per student.
UToledo continues to outperform in student success, announcing earlier this month that it has achieved the highest six-year graduation and first-to-second-year retention rates in the institution's history. Those accomplishments are not included in the time period for this U.S. News and World Report ranking but should be reflected in future rankings.
The University also performs well on U.S. News and World Report's research metrics; however, those data points are more heavily weighted in the publication's Best Global Universities list, which focuses on global and regional research reputation and academic research performance. UToledo was ranked in the top half of more than 2,250 schools evaluated by U.S. News and World Report in its 2025 Best Global Universities list that was released in July.
UToledo is ranked 159 out of the 225 public universities in the latest 2026 Best Colleges list and ranked No. 6 among the public schools in Ohio. UToledo is one of only two Ohio public universities that moved up in the new rankings.
In addition to the overall college rankings, U.S. News released rankings for several undergraduate programs. UToledo has nationally ranked academic programs in engineering, psychology, business, computer science and nursing.
