Governor Newsom honors fallen San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy

SACRAMENTO- Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement regarding the death of San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy Andrew Nunez:

"On behalf of all Californians, Jennifer and I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Nunez. His courage, compassion and dedication to protecting others reflect the finest traditions of law enforcement. We honor his life and service with gratitude; may his sacrifice never be forgotten."

On October 27, Deputy Nunez was shot while responding to a domestic violence call in Rancho Cucamonga. He was immediately transported to the hospital, where despite lifesaving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

Deputy Nunez, 28, was a six-year veteran with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

He is survived by his wife, their two-year-old daughter, their unborn child, his mother and four siblings.

In honor of Deputy Nunez, flags at the State Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space will be flown at half-staff.
