Weekend Lane and Ramp Closures on I-75/I-85 Connector for Lighting Upgrades
Expect Traffic Delays, Plan Alternate Routes
ATLANTA METRO - Crews for Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) crews will install lane closures on Interstate 75/Interstate 85 (I-75/I-85) "The Downtown Connector" overpass tunnels in Fulton County. Crews will upgrade the existing tunnel lighting to energy efficient LED and repair or replace lighting equipment at 14 key locations throughout metro Atlanta, including the ones listed below: the Connector at Capital Avenue/SR 154/Memorial Drive Overpass Tunnel, the Connector at Ralph McGill Boulevard at Baker Street Overpass Tunnel, and I-85 from I-75 to Lenox Road.

Weather and on-site conditions permitting, these are the scheduled overnight and daytime lane and ramp closures:

Peachtree Street Tunnel
6 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 29
  • One left lane and the left shoulder lane will be closed on I-85 southbound from just north of Lenox Road to the Peachtree Street overpass bridge
Memorial Drive and Capitol Avenue Tunnels
Each weekend night beginning Friday, March 27, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following mornings for work at SR154/Memorial Drive and Capitol Avenue overpass tunnel -
  • The exit ramp from the I-75/I-85 Connector to I-20 east and westbound will be closed to traffic.
  • 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 29
    • One right lane will be closed on I-75/I-85 southbound under the SR154/Memorial Drive and Capitol Avenue overpass tunnel
Courtland/Ralph McGill and Piedmont/Baker Tunnels
Each weekend night beginning Friday, March 27, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following mornings for work at the Courtland/Ralph McGill overpass tunnel and the Piedmont/Baker overpass tunnel:
  • Four right laneswill be closed on I-75/I-85 Connector southbound under the Piedmont/Baker overpass
GDOT is investing $30 million in 14 projects to replace and upgrade the lighting in the overpass tunnels throughout metro Atlanta in preparation for the FIFA World Cup events this summer. All 14 projects are scheduled for completion by the end of May 2026.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through the work zone during the project work hours. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
