Members of the Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS), which includes Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Learning Resource Center (LRC) on the Wyvetter H. Younge Higher Education Campus, participated in a "Name the Machine" contest. IHLS Institutions were offered an opportunity to name the Automated Materials Handling System (AMHS) sorting machines installed at three hubs: Champagne, Edwardsville and Carbondale. The LRC staff submission of "Scan-Gogh" was a first-place winner and has successfully named the AMHS in Carbondale.
"As a small library, we rely on interlibrary loans so our patrons can access a wider range of materials," said Sarah Wyatt Kirkpatrick, Director of the Learning Resource Center and Campus Engagement. "The new sorting machine helps speed up the process for getting those items delivered. As a staff, we had a lot of fun brainstorming ideas for the new machine names. We definitely love a pun and were thrilled that our name ended up placing first!"
IHLS organizers hosted a grand reveal of the top three winning machine names at their Tuesday, Oct. 28 annual meeting at the Carbondale hub. The event included a tour of the machine itself and ribbon cutting ceremony.
Visit the IHLS contest page for the winning entries.
Congratulations, LRC staff!
