Parks for Pollinators returns for more discovery!

Residents are invited to participate in the 2026 Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz, a month-long citizen science initiative coordinated by Pinellas County Parks and Conservation Resources through its Bee City USA program.

BioBlitz encourages park, preserve and natural area visitors to document native pollinators and pollinator-friendly plants using the free iNaturalist app. Participants of all ages and experience levels can join a nationwide effort to better understand pollinator populations and help conserve the habitats they depend upon. Residents can participate independently or attend one of several guided BioBlitz events.

How to participate anytime: Visit a Pinellas County park or preserve during September, snap photos of pollinators or pollinator-friendly plants, and upload your observations to the free iNaturalist app.

Attend an event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the following Saturdays:

• Sept. 5 at Raymond H. Neri Park, 4300 Duval Park Blvd., St. Petersburg

• Sept. 12 at Patti Johnson Farm, 6199 94^th Ave., Pinellas Park

• Sept. 19 at Moccasin Lake Nature Park, 2750 Park Trail Lane, Clearwater
  

Following the 2025 Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz, which recorded more than 4,300 observations, the County has partnered with the cities of Clearwater and Pinellas Park for three events to expand participation across the county and provide multiple opportunities to learn about pollinators, connect with local naturalists, and contribute observations.

"Documenting and learning about these vital pollinators, like bees, butterflies and moths, gives us valuable information about our parks, preserves and natural spaces," said Pinellas County Parks and Conservation Resources director Paul Cozzie. "Native pollinators are not only beautiful, they also help ensure healthy ecosystems."

To learn even more about the power of pollinators, join us for our Wildflower and Pollinator Festival at Brooker Creek Preserve on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
