California Water Service Infrastructure Upgrade Underway in Selma to Improve Water Supply Reliability, Fire Protection

SELMA, Calif.-California Water Service (Cal Water) has begun a water infrastructure upgrade in Selma that will help strengthen water supply reliability and fire protection for local customers.

The project, which started this week and is expected to be completed in October, includes installation of approximately 2,700 feet of new eight-inch water main. Crews are working to install the new main on Gaither, Logan, Lee, and Stillman streets.

"Water infrastructure improvements like this help Cal Water continue to provide reliable service for customers' everyday needs, while supporting first responders' emergency needs to protect the communities we serve," said Mike Andrada, Cal Water's Selma District Operations Manager. "We appreciate customers' patience as we complete work that will help maintain safe, reliable service for customers, support firefighters, and benefit the community for decades to come."

Crews will perform the majority of work Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Some night or weekend construction may be required, and nearby customers will be notified when scheduled after-hours work is needed. Cal Water crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction.

After installation, crews will flush the water lines and test water quality samples before connecting individual water services to the new main. Temporary service interruptions will be required when customer services are connected and the new main is placed into service; however, customers will be notified before any planned shutdowns.

Temporary asphalt will be applied until permanent paving is completed, which can be up to 30 days after project completion. This waiting period allows the trench to fully compact, helping provide a smoother road surface.
