Columbia Police arrest possible burglary suspect

(COLUMBIA, MO)-

On Oct. 27, Columbia Police arrested a man fitting one of the suspect's descriptions of a burglary earlier in the day. The suspect was riding a bicycle and did not yield to police vehicles before fleeing to a pond located southwest of Ponderosa Street and Nifong Boulevard.

The suspect entered the pond and refused to swim back to shore for several minutes. The Columbia Fire Department assisted with a boat for a water rescue and the suspect was arrested.

He was transported for medical evaluation due to water exposure, but was released to our custody. He was arrested for resisting arrest. At this time, we do not believe he was involved in the burglary.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652.
