APRIL 25 BATTERY RECYCLING EVENT FAQs

  1. When and where is the event taking place?

The drive-thru recycling event will be held April 25 from 8 AM to 12 PM at the administration building of East Penn Manufacturing. This is ACROSS THE STREET from our manufacturing facilities. Please see the map in this blog post for more detail. There will be posted signs as you approach the event.

  1. What types of batteries can I bring?

We are accepting used lead batteries, including automotive, marine, truck, lawn and garden, and golf-cart size batteries. Please note that batteries must be golf-cart size or smaller in order to be returned at this event.

  1. How many batteries can I bring?

We will accept no more than three batteries per vehicle. We have this limit in place to keep transactions moving and prevent delays for other guests. If you have more batteries you'd like to recycle, please visit our retail store during normal hours. It is open Monday to Friday from 7 am to 4 pm.

  1. How does the drive-thru process work?

We've tried to make your experience as enjoyable and easy as possible. Enter at the non-traffic light entrance before making a left. You'll be greeted at our first tent and given a small gift before being directed to move forward to the spot where we will collect your batteries. Our helpers will verify and retrieve the batteries from your car, and then they'll come back to your vehicle with your payment. Exit at the traffic light intersection. Note: Please be prepared to have your driver's license scanned.

  1. How long will the drop-off process take?

The event is designed to be as efficient and convenient as possible, but we cannot predict potential wait times due to fluctuations in attendance. The battery return transaction itself, however, is designed to take no more than 5-10 minutes. Having your driver's license out and ready for the battery return process will help keep the line moving.

  1. How much will I get paid for my batteries?

For this one day only, we will pay double the standard reimbursement rate for qualifying used lead batteries. For example, instead of receiving $7.50 for an automotive battery, you will receive $15.

  1. Do I need to get out of my car?

No. This is solely a drive-thru event. Simply pull into the parking lot and follow the signs. Our team will collect the batteries from your vehicle while you remain inside.

  1. Do I need to register or make an appointment?

No registration or appointment is required. Just arrive any time between 8 AM and 12 PM on April 25. However, we would appreciate if you tell us you're coming on our Facebook event page.

  1. Do I need to bring anything else besides used lead batteries?

You must bring your driver's license for us to scan when collecting your batteries. Only a driver's license will be accepted as an official form of ID.

  1. What happens to the batteries after I drop them off?

Lead batteries are the most recycled consumer product in the world. After collection, the batteries will be processed at our recycling facility across the street. From there, their parts will be reprocessed into raw materials and used to manufacture new batteries at our production facilities.

  1. What if it rains?

The event will take place rain or shine, unless weather conditions become unsafe. We will communicate updates via social media and on our Power2Recycle webpage www.power2recycle.com.

  1. Why is East Penn paying double for batteries at this event?

This event is designed to help show how easy and valuable proper battery recycling can be. By offering double the normal reimbursement rate for one day, we hope to encourage more people to return lead batteries that may be sitting around at home or in their place of business. It's a simple way to reward responsible recycling while raising awareness about the importance of returning used lead batteries.

  1. Why shouldn't I leave an old lead battery in my garage?

Used lead batteries often end up sitting in garages for years because people aren't sure what to do with them. But those batteries contain valuable materials that can be fully recycled and reused when returned properly. Bringing your battery to East Penn ensures it will be safely recycled and turned into new batteries-instead of sitting unused or risking them being disposed of improperly.
