There are many reasons to receive a vision exam each year. Annual exams are critical for identifying and addressing vision and eye health concerns, and for employees enrolled in Marquette's vision insurance plan, vision exams are covered in full when using a VSP provider (a copay of up to $20 applies for a contact lens fitting and exam). Employees and their spouses can also earn 50 My Wellness points by completing this preventive care visit.
Just as annual physical exams help identify broader health risks, an annual vision exam plays an important role in detecting eye health concerns and early signs of disease. Vision exams are not solely for vision correction; they are comprehensive exams that assess the overall health of the eyes, including screening for conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Because many of these conditions show no symptoms in their early stages, regular eye exams are critical to preventing disease progression and reducing the risk of vision impairment or loss. Vision exams can also address common concerns such as dry eyes, eye strain, and the effects of seasonal allergies.
While eye diseases often develop later in life, untreated vision problems can significantly affect a child's ability to learn. Although school-aged children may receive vision screenings at school, these screenings are often limited and focus only on visual acuity rather than overall eye health. For this reason, both adults and children should receive comprehensive eye exams each year.
Those enrolled in Marquette's vision insurance plan through VSP can care for their eyes by taking advantage of an annual vision exam at any VSP provider with no copay (contact lens exam includes up to $20 copay). The plan also includes primary eye care benefits, such as retinal screenings and the diagnosis and treatment of conditions including pink eye, vision loss, and cataracts, all with no copay when care is received from a VSP provider.
To find a VSP network provider, either visit vsp.com or call 800-877-7195. Because VSP does not issue ID cards for vision insurance, employees and anyone else covered on the vision plan should use the employee's nine-digit MUID number.
More extensive information on additional features of the vision benefit can be found on the Vision Insurance page and in the Total Rewards Guide.
