Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. today announced the next phase of construction on the new roundabout on State Route 825 in the City of Rome is underway.
An on-site detour will begin on July 7, 2026 and will be in effect for the duration of construction. The on-site detour will restrict traffic to a single lane in both directions with dedicated turning lanes and a temporary traffic light at the Perimeter Road/State Route 825 intersection. Temporary measures to accommodate pedestrian and bicycle traffic will also be implemented. Commuters should expect minor delays.
The development is the latest milestone in support of Chobani's future 2-million-square-foot dairy processing facility on the County-owned Triangle Site at Griffiss International Airport. A significant portion of site and infrastructure work at the Triangle Site is being completed by Oneida County using a combination of County and New York State funding.
"This project continues to move from planning to reality and reflects the coordinated effort underway to prepare the Triangle Site at Griffiss for transformational investment," said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. "The roundabout and roadway improvements are critical infrastructure that will improve safety, support traffic movement and create the access needed for Chobani's future facility. Along with the utility and site work taking place across the corridor, we are building the foundation for long-term economic growth, new jobs and continued opportunity in Oneida County."
The new roundabout will connect State Route 825 to an enhanced Perimeter Road, which will serve as the primary access point to the Triangle Site and Chobani's future dairy processing facility. A noise wall will act as a buffer between homes and the roundabout. The noise wall is substantially complete, and both the noise wall and roundabout are expected to be fully completed this fall.
"Today's progress marks another important step forward for the City of Rome and Oneida County," said Rome Mayor Jeffrey M. Lanigan. "This infrastructure investment will improve traffic flow and safety for residents while supporting the long-term growth and economic opportunities that Chobani's future facility will bring to our community. We appreciate the partnership with Oneida County and New York State as we continue building the foundation for future development in the City of Rome and throughout the region."
Other work spearheaded by Oneida County includes the construction of a 12-inch steel natural gas main, a sanitary sewer pump station and force main and the installation of a new electrical service that will provide an additional 50 megawatts of power to the Triangle Site.
All work will continue to advance in phases throughout 2026 and in parallel with Chobani's timelines.
