Young drivers across the region are being encouraged to build their road safety knowledge and confidence at an upcoming community event bringing together emergency services, road safety professionals and local motoring representatives.
Shift Into Safety is a joint initiative between Junee Shire Council, Coolamon Shire Council, Bland Shire Council and Temora Shire Council to promote safer driving practices and help young people better understand the responsibilities that come with getting behind the wheel.
The event will be held on Saturday 7 November 2026, from 2pm at the Treflé Building, Farmlink Ag Research Centre in Temora. Presentations will feature NSW Highway Patrol, NSW Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW, the local NRMA and the Road & Track Car Club.
Through real-world experiences and practical advice, presenters will explore different aspects of road safety, helping young drivers understand the risks they may encounter and the consequences that can follow unsafe decisions.
Hearing directly from emergency service personnel will give attendees an opportunity to learn from those who respond to road incidents and see their impacts firsthand. The presentations will also provide practical information to help young drivers make informed choices, take responsibility for their actions and look out for the safety of their passengers and other road users.
Temora Shire Mayor Rick Firman OAM said the initiative demonstrated the value of regional councils working together to support young people and promote safer roads.
"Road safety is something that affects all of our communities, and this is a great example of what we can achieve when we come together with a shared goal," Mayor Firman said.
"By working together, our councils can share resources, knowledge and ideas to deliver initiatives that benefit young people across our region."
The event will also provide an opportunity for young drivers to connect with local organisations, ask questions and take away practical advice they can apply to their everyday driving.
Following the presentations, attendees are invited to stay for a free barbecue and catch up with presenters and other community members in a relaxed setting.
Young drivers, learner and provisional licence holders, their families and anyone interested in supporting safer roads are encouraged to attend.
