On May 17, 2026, Consul General Fu Lihua attended the final round of the 19th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students from Western Australia, the Australian Capital Territory, and the Northern Territory. The event was joined by over 120 people, including Cheng Zhijie, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Australia; Dr Jags Krishnan MLA, representing Dr Tony Buti MLA, Minister of Multicultural Interests;Hon. Dr Parwinder Kaur MLC, Deputy Chair of Committees of Legislative Council of Western Australia;Mr Yaz Mubarakai MLA ; Mr Bruce Reynolds, the Lord Mayor of the City of Perth;Mr Logan K. Howlett,the Mayor of the City of Cockburn;Mr Karlo Perkov, Deputy Mayor of the City of Stirling, and other distinguished guests.
Consul General Fu remarked that the Chinese language is an important medium of Chinese civilization, conveying the beauty of Chinese characters, the people, history, the various landscapes, and the philosophical wisdom of "harmony in diversity." She expressed the hope that more Australian young people would learn Chinese, experience China, learn from each other with their Chinese partners, and jointly create a brighter future for China-Australia relations.
The competition was organized by the Australia-China Friendship Society of Western Australia. In addition to the contestant awards, prizes such as the Principal's Award, Outstanding Teacher Award, and People's Choice Award were presented. Besides their Chinese speeches, the students' performances, rich in Chinese cultural characteristics, drew enthusiastic applause.
