Governor Kathy Hochul today updated New Yorkers on extreme weather across the state. A flood watch is in effect for parts of New York City and the Mid-Hudson region.

Luckily, we had good weather yesterday at the fair, but I cannot say that is the case for today. I want to start with talking about what we're expecting. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across the state, mainly in the afternoon and early evening. Some could be very severe, producing damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado, and large hail cannot be ruled out at this time. A flood watch is in effect through this evening for parts of New York City, Mid-Hudson. These thunderstorms are capable of producing heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms could reach up to two and a half inches per hour. And of course, it's the urban and low-lying areas that are at risk for flash flooding. And flash flooding, as I've said before, can happen in the blink of an eye.
