Tara Huston Named Medical Director of Stony Brook Medicine Breast Care for CIN

Tara L. Huston, MD, from the Department of Surgery's Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, has been appointed medical director of Stony Brook Medicine's Breast Care Service for the Clinically Integrated Network (CIN). She will work with senior leadership from the breast cancer team, including Drs. Brian O'Hea, Cindy Lee and Allison Stopeck, CIN leadership and the Cancer Center.

"We are excited to welcome Dr. Huston to the breast cancer leadership team," said Brian J. O'Hea, MD, professor of clinical surgery, chief of breast surgery and director of the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Care Center.

"We are grateful that she has assumed this important responsibility and are confident she will be an outstanding addition to our leadership team," added Todd R. Griffin, MD, MBA, vice dean for clinical affairs, vice president for clinical services and professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine.

In this new position, Dr. Huston will focus on initiatives to strengthen, differentiate and expand mammographic screening and breast care throughout Stony Brook Medicine. In addition to this new role, she is also a professor of surgery and dermatology in the Renaissance School of Medicine and a leader of the melanoma management team. She is affiliated with Stony Brook Medicine's Breast Center, Cancer Center and Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Center.

"It is an honor to take on this role and partner with the exceptional colleagues whose dedication has built such a strong breast care program at Stony Brook Medicine," said Dr. Huston. "I look forward to building on that momentum by collaborating with Cancer Center and CIN leadership to drive innovative strategies that expand mammographic screening, enhance coordinated breast care, and elevate Stony Brook Medicine as a destination for comprehensive breast health for the patients and communities we serve."

Dr. Huston earned a bachelor's degree in biochemical sciences from Harvard College in 1997 and an MD from the School of Medicine at Stony Brook University Medical Center in 2001. She completed residency training in general surgery and plastic surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center between 2008 and 2011, and a fellowship in translational research in breast cancer from New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center in 2011.
