Slidell Man Guilty of Attempted Transfer of Obscene Material to a Minor

NEW ORLEANS - NICHOLAS JOHN ENGOLIA II, ("ENGOLIA"), age 32, pleaded guilty on October 8, 2026 before U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1470, announced U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle. Sentencing is set for January 28, 2027.

According to the factual basis, beginning on or about January 28, 2026, and culminating on or about March 3, 2026, ENGOLIA, corresponded online and via text message with an individual he believed to be a fifteen-year-old female, and during that correspondence, ENGOLIA, texted explicit photos of himself, and coordinated to meet at a park in Covington, Louisiana to engage in sexual activity.

ENGOLIA faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, up to five (5) years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000 and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee. ENGOLIA may also be required to register as a sex offender.

U.S. Attorney Courcelle praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Mary Anne Flippo of the Public Integrity Unit and Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Task Force is in charge of the prosecution.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
