The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has attended the arrival of Pope Leo XVI in Spain together with the King and Queen. The Pontiff's visit to Spain includes stops in Madrid, Barcelona, Gran Canaria and Tenerife, and is his first official visit to the country since the beginning of his pontificate.

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, accompanied King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, who received Pope Leo XIV on his arrival in Spain from Rome in the State Pavilion at Adolfo Suárez-Madrid Barajas Airport. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, and the Minister for the Presidency, Justice and Parliamentary Relations, Félix Bolaños, were also present.
Leo XIV's apostolic journey to Spain represents the first papal visit to the country in 15 years. The last one took place during the pontificate of Benedict XVI on the occasion of the 26th World Youth Day in Madrid in 2011.
