U.S. Airlines’ November 2025 Aviation Fuel Consumption Down 7.8%, And Fuel Cost Per Gallon Up 3.2% From October 2025

Data on the program page of this website are the most up-to-date and complete. All costs are in current dollars. All fuel consumption data is in regard to fuel paid for by the carrier.

The Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) today released U.S. airlines' November 2025 fuel cost and consumption numbers indicating U.S. scheduled service airlines used 1.483 billion gallons of fuel, 7.8% less fuel than in October 2025 (1.608 billion gallons) and 0.8% less fuel than November 2024 (1.495 billion gallons). The cost per gallon of fuel in November 2025 ($2.42) was up 8 cents (3.2%) from October 2025 ($2.34) and up 11 cents (4.7%) from November 2024 ($2.31). Total November 2025 fuel expenditure ($3.59B) was down 4.8% from October 2025 ($3.77B) and up 3.9% from November 2024 ($3.45B).

Airline fuel costs may be affected by hedging, contracts that allow airlines to limit exposure to future price changes. None of the cost numbers are adjusted for inflation. The month-to-month numbers are not seasonally adjusted.

Generally, data is released per schedule if reports have been received from at least 90% of the carriers, along with data from all the major carriers.
