Ohio Department of Commerce to Host Webinar May 8 Highlighting Opportunities, Benefits and Pathways to the Skilled Trades

WHO: The Ohio Department of Commerce will host a free webinar to educate students, families, educators, and all Ohioans about the growing need of workers in the skilled trades and the professional opportunities available to the state's youth. Representatives from the Division of Industrial Compliance, including its Board of Building Standards and Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board, will be among the presenters.

WHAT: This 30-minute webinar is being offered in recognition of In-Demand Jobs Week (May 4-8, 2026) and will provide an introductory overview of the skilled trades in Ohio. Participants will gain valuable insights into what the skilled trades are, current and future job demand, benefits of pursuing a career in the trades, available tools and resources for planning, and actionable steps students can take to prepare for careers in the skilled trades.

WHEN: 11 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026.

WHY: Skilled trades play a critical role in Ohio's economy, offering high-demand careers with competitive benefits and opportunities for advancement. This virtual event aims to equip attendees with the knowledge they need to make informed career decisions. According to the 2020-2030 Ohio Job Outlook by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, an estimated 21,656 job openings in the skilled trades will need to be filled annually through 2030.
